Role Overview: Assists surgeons during surgical procedures, supporting patient care across all ages.
Key Responsibilities: Prepares for surgery by practicing aseptic techniques, sets up instruments, connects clinical equipment, and ensures correct surgical site verification. Maintains accurate supply counts and handles specimens properly. Assesses wounds, applies dressings, and manages specimen verification. Participates in surgical briefings, maintains universal precautions, and initiates emergency protocols. Supports patient admission/discharge, performs billing, and acts as a preceptor for students. Executes additional duties such as specimen collection, patient transport, and post-mortem care, under supervision.
Qualifications & Skills: Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent required; completion of specialty training program. Demonstrates proficiency in aseptic techniques, attention to detail, teamwork, and adherence to policies.
Work Environment & Expectations: Performs in a clinical setting, following all organizational policies and standards of care. Participates in on-call rotations, holiday work, and maintains a responsive attitude with a 30-minute response time for on-call shifts.
