Role Overview: This position involves performing specialized technical duties in surgical or procedural environments under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or Physician. The role supports the surgical team by ensuring the operating room environment is safe, equipment is functional, and supplies are properly prepared and managed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing patients and setting up instruments, dressings, and supplies for procedures.
- Ensure proper functioning and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment.
- Maintain a strict aseptic environment, label and dispatch solutions and medications per policies.
- Participate in specimen management, correctly identifying and forwarding specimens.
- Prepare equipment and supplies, perform procedural counts, and manage time efficiently.
- Attend meetings and in-services, follow infection control policies, and adhere to safety regulations.
- Perform other duties to ensure quality patient care and operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, and completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program.
- Preferred experience includes at least one year as a Surgical Technician.
- Required certifications include Surgical Technician Certification by recognized boards and BLS certification, obtained within 90 days of employment.
- Additional certifications from military or public health programs are advantageous but optional.
