Role Overview: The Respiratory Therapist II provides advanced respiratory care, medication administration, and patient assessments in complex clinical situations, primarily in critical care settings. They perform ventilator management, airway procedures, arterial blood gas sampling, and collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care, including aerosolized medications, bronchial hygiene, and oxygen therapy.
- Manage ventilators, interpret waveforms, and perform airway management procedures such as intubation and tracheostomy care.
- Educate patients, families, and support systems, and mentor new staff and students.
- Ensure safety and quality through accurate documentation, adherence to protocols, and participation in performance improvement initiatives.
- Promote evidence-based practices and compliance with policies and standards.
Qualifications:
- Minimum education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred).
- Licenses/Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and NBRC-RRT or RCP required at hire.
- Experience: 0-2 years clinical experience, with at least 6 months in critical care.
- Skills: Strong communication, critical thinking, teamwork, assessment abilities, and computer proficiency.
