Provides nursing care for Life Flight operations, following Act 37 standards and protocols.
Key responsibilities include:
- Accepting duty assignments at various program sites as needed to ensure continuity of care.
- Delivering patient care from initial contact through transfer to medical facilities.
- Maintaining thorough documentation in the Electronic Medical Record.
- Practicing within the scope defined by state, BEMS (Act 37), and organizational policies, while maintaining competency through ongoing training.
- Communicating educational needs, participating in continuing education, and staying knowledgeable about equipment and supplies.
- Ensuring the medical interior of aircraft and ground ambulances is well-maintained and stocked.
- Serving as a flight crew member, assisting pilots, participating in briefings and debriefings, and completing required documentation.
- Supporting specialty team transports such as ECMO and NICU, and adhering to safety standards during all flight phases.
- Mentoring, precepting new staff, and contributing to safety and performance evaluations.
- Troubleshooting equipment issues and ensuring a safe environment in aircraft and hangar settings.
Qualifications and skills:
- Critical care nursing experience (minimum three years).
- Specialty certifications such as CCRN, CEN, CFRN, or CTRN required upon hire; CFRN within one year.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and work in environments with noise, fumes, vibration, and temperature extremes.
- Must be able to work in aircraft and hangar environments with exposure to various hazards.
