Orthopedic Physical Therapist

Role Overview:
Organize and deliver medically prescribed Physical Therapy to alleviate pain, restore function, and prevent disability after disease, injury, or loss of a body part. Assist patients in achieving maximum performance, societal integration, and living within their capabilities. Develop individualized therapy plans utilizing physical means such as exercise, massage, manual therapy, heat, water, light, and electricity as directed by physicians.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostic and functional tests on muscles, nerves, and joints
  • Guide patients through active/passive exercises, muscle reeducation, gait, and functional training using equipment
  • Operate therapy devices like ultrasound, diathermy, and generators
  • Apply whirlpools, contrast baths, moist heat, and treat wound patients
  • Educate patients on postural control, use of mobility aids, and therapeutic exercises
  • Conduct patient evaluations, track progress, and document outcomes
  • Supervise assistants, aides, and volunteers; participate in training students and staff

  • Qualifications & Skills:
    • Minimum high school diploma; a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) required after certain dates
    • Experience in physical therapy (preferred but not mandatory)
    • Licensed Physical Therapist; required certifications include Basic Life Support (BLS) and potentially pelvic health
    • Must obtain Pelvic Health certification within 90 days if not already certified
    • Required certifications are mandatory; preferred certifications are advantageous
