Role Overview

This position involves providing direct patient care in the perioperative environment, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within established nursing standards. The nurse educates patients and families about surgical processes, acts as a liaison between physicians and patients, and demonstrates competence in scrubbing and/or circulating roles across various surgical specialties. Responsibilities include preparing and assisting with surgeries using safety techniques, ensuring patient safety from adverse events, and maintaining sterile procedures. The role also involves participating in safety and quality initiatives, ongoing professional development, and mentoring new staff as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of a Nursing Diploma or Associate’s degree; 2-5 years of OR nursing experience.
  • Current RN license required; preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, CNOR certification, Periop 101, and mastery test out.
  • Strong critical thinking, professional judgment, and communication skills needed to handle complex cases and collaborate with surgical teams.
  • Key Duties

  • Educate patients and families about procedures and support resources.
  • Prepare and set up surgical instruments and supplies, ensuring safety and sterile technique.
  • Monitor patient safety during procedures, prevent adverse events, and handle operative specimens appropriately.
