Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Medical Surgical

Role Overview: Provides patient care under supervision as part of a Nurse Residency Program, focusing on refining nursing skills and knowledge. Works closely with the Clinical Education Team and licensed RNs to manage clinical situations, complete competencies, and ensure compliance with organizational policies including licensure, infection control, and patient confidentiality.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Attends training, participates in professional development, and completes clinical competencies.
  • Collects patient data, documents care, and communicates patient needs to RNs.
  • Contributes to interdisciplinary care planning, makes referrals, and advocates for patients.
  • Performs treatments, explains procedures, and recognizes emergency situations for escalation.
  • Records patient care activities, observes for problems, and implements nursing measures.
  • Incorporates cost-effective practices, participates in quality improvement, and helps adjust staffing as needed.
  • Fulfills additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Completion of an approved LPN program or recognized equivalency.
  • Current LPN license in the practicing state; RN licensure accepted temporarily if obtained.
  • Less than twelve months of LPN experience to qualify.
