Interventional Radiology Technologist

Role Overview: Performs or assists in cardiac, neuro, body, and vascular-interventional procedures, ensuring patient safety and optimal image quality. Responsible for preparing, administering medications, and managing radiation exposure in compliance with laws and policies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain correct orders, identify and prepare patients, document clinical history, and ensure confidentiality.
  • Utilize appropriate imaging protocols, optimize technical factors, and adhere to ALARA principles.
  • Administer medications via vascular access as prescribed and evaluate image quality.
  • Educate and monitor students and healthcare providers; assist or perform diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Maintain intra-arterial access, operate monitoring and imaging equipment, and perform manual hemostasis.
  • Record hemodynamic data, participate in physiological monitoring, and initiate ACLS protocols as needed.
  • Practice sterile techniques, ensure quality control, and participate in process improvements.

Qualifications & Skills: Certification by ARRT (ARRT-R) with advanced certifications (ARRT-VI, CI, CV) required. For cardiology, graduation from an accredited program or ARRT with RCIS certification, along with ACLS (and PALS if applicable). Proficiency in complex duties, adherence to safety standards, and commitment to quality care are essential.
