Role Overview: Radiologic Technologists administer ionizing radiation for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes. They perform radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures, acquire and analyze diagnostic data, and assist licensed practitioners. Responsibilities include preparing patients, ensuring correct procedures, optimizing imaging protocols, administering medications as prescribed, evaluating image quality, and maintaining documentation in compliance with laws and policies. They also educate and monitor students and healthcare providers, and assist in procedures outside the radiology department such as in operating rooms or ICU.
Key Responsibilities:
- Obtain correct orders, identify patients, and prepare them for exams.
- Use appropriate imaging protocols, maximize patient safety, and apply ALARA principles.
- Administer medications via vascular access when required.
- Evaluate images for quality, verify data storage, and process data as needed.
- Assist licensed practitioners during fluoroscopic and specialized procedures.
- Perform radiographic procedures independently or with supervision, including outside the department.
Qualifications & Skills: Graduate from a Specialty Training Program in Radiologic Technology (required); Bachelor’s degree in a related field (preferred). New graduates must obtain ARRT-R registration within six months. Applicants hired after a specified date must progress to level 2 within 24 months. Strong attention to patient safety, technical proficiency, and collaborative skills are essential.
