Role Overview
This position involves providing direct patient care and clinical support in an outpatient setting, working as part of a healthcare team under the provider’s supervision. Responsibilities include preparing patients, collecting vital signs, performing technical procedures like EKGs and wound dressings, assisting during minor surgical procedures, and supporting laboratory specimen collection and phlebotomy. Administrative duties include patient scheduling, documentation, handling referrals, and billing inquiries. The role requires proficiency in electronic medical records, patient communication, and infection control protocols. Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) from recognized associations is mandatory, along with a high school diploma or GED. Candidates should have completed an accredited medical assistant program, possess strong clinical and clerical skills, and demonstrate competency in medication administration and laboratory procedures.
Key Duties
- Perform clinical tasks such as vital signs, screenings, EKGs, and wound care.
- Assist with minor procedures and support provider during exams.
- Collect specimens, perform phlebotomy, and prepare lab samples.
- Support patient flow through scheduling, referrals, and documentation.
- Maintain infection control and sterilization protocols.
- Support patient education and communication as directed.
- Perform clerical tasks, including billing, filing, and data entry.
- Assist in inventory management and supply preparation.
- Participate in quality improvement and safety initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) from approved organizations.
- Accredited medical assistant training or diploma preferred.
- Strong clinical skills, including specimen collection and basic procedures.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to follow protocols, maintain safety, and ensure patient privacy.
