Behavior Specialist 1:1

Role: Behavior Specialist in a Special Education setting, supporting elementary and middle school students.

Responsibilities:

  • Implementing individual, group, and system-wide behavioral interventions to promote positive outcomes.
  • Reinforcing positive behaviors, redirecting negative behaviors, and modeling strategies for staff.
  • Maintaining accurate records of behavior plans and interventions.
  • Collecting and analyzing behavioral data to monitor student progress.
  • Supporting classroom staff with behavior management and monitoring students.
  • Applying ABA principles under supervision to address disruptive behaviors.
  • Conducting behavioral observations and developing assessments and intervention plans.
  • Assisting with instructional activities, supervising students, and managing classroom behavior.
  • Providing crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure safety.
  • Documenting incidents, adhering to safety protocols, and participating in team and professional development activities.
  • Supporting students during school activities and performing additional duties to enhance program quality.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Associate’s degree or higher in a related field.
  • Current or pending paraprofessional or similar license; RBT credential preferred.
  • Experience working with children with learning disabilities, autism, or behavioral disorders.
  • Knowledge of ABA, FBA, BIP, and PBIS principles.
  • Strong communication, organization, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to respond calmly in emergencies and make independent decisions.
  • Proficiency with technology and data management tools.
