Role Overview: The Surgical Technologist assists in surgical procedures by preparing operating rooms, sterilizing equipment, and supporting surgeons and nurses during surgeries. They ensure aseptic techniques, verify surgical site and supplies, and manage specimens and documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up operating rooms with supplies and equipment according to surgeon preferences.
- Assist in patient preparation, including sterilization and incision site washing.
- Pass instruments and supplies to surgical staff, maintaining sterile conditions.
- Participate in surgical safety protocols like Time and Out and universal protocols.
- Verify correct surgical site and manage specimen identification and labeling.
- Maintain accurate supply counts, report concerns impacting patient care, and adhere to policies and standards.
- Support medication labeling under supervision and participate in educational programs.
Qualifications & Skills: Graduate of Specialty Training Program; strong adherence to aseptic techniques, attention to detail, and teamwork skills required.
