Operating Room Assistant (Perioperative Support)
Prepare and maintain the operating room by ensuring a sterile, ready-to-use environment. Assist with patient positioning and preparation prior to surgical procedures. Support surgeons throughout operations by providing the correct instruments, handling and preparing specimens, and anticipating procedural needs.
Key responsibilities include maintaining sterile technique, monitoring patients and surgical readiness, and checking or troubleshooting operating room equipment as needed. Participate in coordinated room turnover processes to help restore areas for the next procedure.
Required skills/qualifications
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique and perioperative safety practices
- Ability to assist with patient positioning and preparation safely and respectfully
- Comfort supporting surgical teams by providing instruments and handling specimens
- Attention to detail and ability to monitor patients and equipment during procedures
- Ability to collaborate effectively in an acute-care surgical environment
