Role Overview: The RN in this position conducts comprehensive preoperative assessments, reviews medical histories, coordinates diagnostic tests, and collaborates with healthcare teams to ensure patient readiness for surgical or invasive procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess patients physically and emotionally, ensuring safety and preparedness
- Review and document medical histories, medications, allergies, and previous surgeries
- Coordinate tests like blood work, ECGs, and X-rays
- Educate patients and families on procedures, risks, and preoperative instructions
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other professionals to develop care plans
- Maintain accurate records and adhere to infection control protocols
- Monitor safety concerns related to allergies, fall risks, and vulnerabilities
Qualifications & Skills:
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or higher, Texas RN license
- American Heart Association BLS certification
- At least 2 years of RN experience in Pre-Assessment, PACU, Pre-Op, or Endoscopy
- Proven computer skills; preferred BSN and perioperative certifications
- Excellent communication skills for patient education
