Registered Respiratory Therapist II

Role Overview:
The Respiratory Therapist II provides advanced respiratory care, including medication administration, ventilator management, and patient assessments, primarily in critical care settings. They independently make clinical decisions, perform invasive and non-invasive procedures, and collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement patient care plans. This role involves educating patients and supporting staff development, while ensuring high-quality, safe, and evidence-based care. The RT II also participates in quality improvement initiatives and maintains compliance with organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver patient-centered respiratory care, including aerosolized medications, airway management, and arterial blood gas sampling.
  • Manage ventilator settings, weaning processes, and interpret waveforms.
  • Educate patients, families, staff, and students on respiratory therapies and procedures.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, promote patient safety, and support performance improvement efforts.
  • Assist with invasive/non-invasive procedures and pulmonary diagnostic testing as needed.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment and uphold quality standards.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred).
  • NBRC-RRT, RCP, BLS, and ACLS certifications are required upon hire.
  • 0-2 years of clinical experience, with at least 6 months in critical care.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and computer skills, with the ability to establish professional relationships.
