Registered Nurse First Assistant

Role Overview:

This position involves performing as a first assistant during surgical procedures in the operating room, collaborating with surgeons and the perioperative team to deliver high-quality patient care. The RNFA works alongside the surgical team, providing intraoperative support, assessing patients pre-operatively, and monitoring responses to modify care plans accordingly. Responsibilities include administering medications, developing individualized care plans, and ensuring safety, effectiveness, and efficiency throughout perioperative care. The role requires participation in ongoing professional development, ethical practice, and leadership within the clinical setting.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Nursing Diploma/Associate’s degree; preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Experience: 2-5 years in a relevant clinical setting; supervisory experience not required
  • Licenses & Certifications: Valid RN license; preferred certifications include Certified First Assistant, CNOR, and Certified RN First Assist

Key Duties:

  • Assist surgeons intraoperatively as part of the surgical team
  • Conduct preoperative assessments and communicate patient outcomes
  • Coordinate and evaluate perioperative care, ensuring patient safety and quality standards
  • Participate in professional growth and ethical decision-making
