Registered Nurse First Assistant

Role Overview:

This position involves performing an expanded perioperative role as a first assistant to surgeons during surgical procedures in the operating room. The RNFA collaborates with the surgical team to provide direct patient care, assesses patients pre-operatively, and develops individualized plans of care. It includes monitoring patient responses, administering medications, and evaluating outcomes to ensure safety and effectiveness.

The RNFA works closely with healthcare providers and supports patient and family education throughout perioperative care. The role emphasizes professional growth, ethical practice, and integrating research into practice to enhance patient safety and care quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver intraoperative patient care as a first assistant, performing focused preoperative assessments and communicating desired outcomes.
  • Contribute to team efficiency by planning, delivering, and evaluating care considering safety, effectiveness, and cost factors.
  • Monitor patient responses, modify care plans, administer medications, and evaluate progress.
  • Participate in professional development, incorporate research, and advocate for patient safety and ethical practice.
  • Qualifications & Skills:

  • Nursing diploma or associate’s degree in nursing; BSN preferred.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience; RN licensure required.
  • Certifications such as CNOR, Certified RN First Assistant, or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and clinical assessment skills are essential.
