Role Overview:
The Respiratory Therapist III provides advanced respiratory care, including medication administration, ventilator management, airway procedures, and patient assessment. They work primarily in critical care settings, exercising significant independent judgment while collaborating with healthcare teams. The role emphasizes patient education, staff mentoring, and participation in quality improvement initiatives to ensure safe, high-quality care tailored to diverse patient populations. Additionally, the RT III supports staff development, promotes evidence-based practices, and assists in invasive and diagnostic procedures where applicable.
Responsibilities include:
- Delivering comprehensive respiratory therapy and education to patients and families
- Performing assessments, managing ventilators, administering medications, and interpreting waveforms
- Ensuring safety through accurate documentation, electronic order management, and adherence to quality standards
- Mentoring new employees, students, and peers in clinical procedures and best practices
- Supporting performance improvement and evidence-based care initiatives
Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited respiratory therapy program with coursework in science
- Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s preferred
- Licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist and related certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and instructor certifications)
- 0-2 years of clinical experience, including at least 6 months in critical care
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and computer skills, with the ability to establish collaborative relationships
