Role Overview: The Respiratory Therapist II provides advanced respiratory care, medication administration, and patient assessment in critical care settings. They independently manage ventilators, perform airway procedures, arterial blood gas sampling, and collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans. The role includes patient, family, and staff education, mentorship of new employees, and participation in quality improvement initiatives. The RT II promotes a safe, evidence-based environment, ensures accurate documentation, and supports performance enhancement efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality patient care, including assessments, therapy, and ventilator management.
- Administer medications and perform invasive/non-invasive procedures.
- Educate patients, families, and staff, and mentor new team members.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals for care planning.
- Ensure safety and quality standards, including accurate documentation and compliance with policies.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and quality improvement activities.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred).
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and NBRC-RRT or RCP.
- 0-2 years of clinical experience, with at least 6 months in critical care.
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with computers and healthcare databases.
