Role Overview: The Medical Technologist II performs clinical laboratory testing across various areas, including General Lab and Blood Bank, under supervision. They ensure accurate test results, maintain equipment and records, and participate in quality assurance activities. They may supervise or teach staff in the absence of supervisors and serve as a technical resource.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze blood and body fluids for diagnostic testing, adhering to established protocols.
- Perform routine testing in hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, chemistry, microbiology, and blood bank.
- Manage quality control, safety logs, and documentation of laboratory activities.
- Communicate effectively with team members and document shift hand-offs.
- Act as a resource for troubleshooting, training, and resolving technical issues.
- Maintain equipment, logs, and inventory, including reagent and supply management.
- Participate in calibration, validation, and proficiency studies, ensuring compliance with CAP and accreditation standards.
- Perform blood bank duties such as handling blood products, running automated instruments, and managing emergency tasks as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Health Science, or related field; Master’s preferred.
- Certifications: MT(ASCP), MT(AMT), or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
- Proficiency in computer/data entry, Excel, Word, and effective communication skills.
- Epic experience is preferred.
