Role: The Diet Assistant transcribes patient diet orders using department software to ensure accurate nourishment delivery and collaborates with clinical nutrition staff to meet patients’ specialized dietary needs.
Responsibilities:
- Enters nourishment details, allergies, dislikes, and dietary restrictions into patient records.
- Verifies the accuracy of substitution lists and makes decisions on adjustments.
- Calculates fluid restrictions and custom meal patterns per dietary plans.
- Processes and checks tray tickets to ensure correct delivery according to prescriptions.
- Receives and updates patient diet information via EPIC, fax, phone, and diet lists.
- Generates reports, labels, and tray tickets; manages meal tracking and payment processing.
- Participates in emergency procedures and assists staff during resource limitations.
- Contributes to training and onboarding activities.
Qualifications & Skills: High School Diploma or GED required. Familiarity with healthcare software, attention to detail, and ability to work in a team environment are essential.
Work Environment & Requirements: Office setting with occasional travel for training. Rotating weekends and holidays required. The role involves adhering to organizational policies and ensuring patient safety and satisfaction.
