Clinical Nurse Specialist – Adult Acute Care

Role Overview:

The Sr Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) supports, supervises, and evaluates nursing staff, especially during their initial orientation period, within a specialty area. They facilitate a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to patient care, promote clinical excellence through standards and competency development, and serve as a clinical resource and consultant. The CNS collaborates closely with physicians and the healthcare team to enhance patient outcomes and ensure high-quality nursing practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support, supervise, and evaluate new staff during their initial onboarding.
  • Implement and promote clinical standards and competency standards for staff.
  • Act as a clinical resource, conducting patient care consultations and assessing practice impact.
  • Participate in clinical rounds and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Master’s Degree in a CCNE or NLNAC-accredited clinical nurse specialist program.
  • Alaska RN license, BLS certification, and current specialty certification (e.g., CEN, CCRN).
  • Minimum of 3 years of specialized nursing experience and 2 years of clinical leadership.
  • Preferred: CNS certification in the specialty area.
