Post-Acute and Long-Term Care (PALTC) – Wound Care Advanced Practitioner (WCAP)

The Nursing Home Wound Care Advanced Practitioner (AP) is a skilled clinical professional, either a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA), with specialized wound management training.

They are responsible for

  • Assessing and managing wounds in long-term care residents, including pressure injuries, ulcers, and surgical wounds.
  • Developing individualized care plans and performing advanced wound treatments such as debridement and negative pressure therapy.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and educating staff on wound prevention and care best practices.
  • Monitoring outcomes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and serving as a resource for residents, families, and staff.
  • Addressing infections promptly and advocating for residents’ dignity and autonomy.

    Qualifications include a relevant degree, 2+ years of experience, board certification (AANP, ANCC, PA-C), and preferred specialty certification in wound care.
