Role Overview:
The Physical Therapist provides medically prescribed therapy to alleviate pain, restore function, and prevent disability after disease, injury, or loss of a body part.
They develop individualized treatment programs using techniques such as exercise, massage, manual therapy, heat, water, light, and electrical modalities, based on physician prescriptions.
The therapist conducts diagnostic and functional tests on muscles, nerves, and joints, and guides patients through active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait, and functional training with various equipment.
They also instruct patients on the use of mobility aids, postural control, and therapeutic exercises, perform evaluations and record progress, and may supervise support staff.
Additionally, they participate in training medical and nursing students and other personnel in physical therapy techniques.
