Role Overview:
The Respiratory Therapist II provides advanced respiratory care, including medication administration, ventilator management, and patient assessment, primarily in critical care settings. They deliver patient-centered care, educate patients and their families, and collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement treatment plans. The role involves independent decision-making, adherence to protocols, and participation in staff development and education of new employees and students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform patient assessments, manage ventilators, and administer therapies such as aerosolized medications and oxygen therapy.
- Interpret waveforms, manage airway devices, and conduct arterial blood gas sampling.
- Educate patients and mentor staff and students, ensuring population-specific needs are addressed.
- Promote a safe, quality environment by ensuring accurate documentation, medication safety, and participation in performance improvement initiatives.
- Support invasive and non-invasive procedures, including pulmonary diagnostics and cardiac procedures.
- Comply with organizational policies and standards of care.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.
- Valid NBRC-RRT, RCP, BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications required at hire.
- 0-2 years of clinical experience, with at least 6 months in critical care.
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills, along with computer proficiency.
