Role Overview: Radiologic Technologists perform diagnostic, therapeutic, or research-related ionizing radiation procedures. They independently conduct radiographic and fluoroscopic exams, analyze data for diagnosis, and assist licensed practitioners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Obtain correct orders, ensure patient identification and preparation, and document clinical history while maintaining confidentiality.
- Use appropriate imaging protocols, optimize technical factors, and adhere to ALARA principles to ensure patient safety and quality results.
- Prepare and administer medications via vascular access as prescribed, and evaluate images for accuracy and quality.
- Verify data transfer and post-process imaging data as needed.
- Educate and monitor students and healthcare providers, and assist practitioners with fluoroscopic and specialized procedures.
- Perform radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures in various settings outside the Radiology Department, such as operating rooms or ICUs.
Work is performed in a clinical environment with adherence to policies and procedures. New graduates must obtain ARRT-R certification within six months. Applicants hired after a specified date should complete steps for advancement within 24 months. A specialty training program in Radiologic Technology is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
