Role Overview:
The Respiratory Therapist II provides advanced respiratory care, medication administration, and patient assessments in complex clinical settings, primarily critical care areas. Responsibilities include ventilator management, airway procedures, arterial blood gas analysis, and patient education. The role emphasizes independent decision-making, collaboration with healthcare teams, and mentorship of new staff and students.
Key Duties:
- Deliver quality patient care through assessments, therapy planning, and execution
- Manage ventilators, perform airway procedures, and interpret waveforms
- Administer aerosolized medications, oxygen, and other respiratory therapies
- Educate patients, families, and support teams, fostering understanding of treatment needs
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure adherence to safety protocols
- Contribute to staff development and training activities
- Ensure accurate documentation, electronic order processing, and compliance with policies
Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum of an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred)
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and NBRC-RRT or RCP
- 0-2 years of clinical experience, with at least 6 months in critical care
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in computer and database use
