Registered Respiratory Therapist II NP – NICU

Role Overview:
The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for delivering advanced respiratory care, including medication administration, ventilator management, airway procedures, and patient assessments, primarily in critical care settings. They independently handle complex cases, educate patients and staff, and participate in procedures and pulmonary diagnostics. The role emphasizes providing safe, high-quality care while promoting a supportive environment and team collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering patient-centered respiratory care, including assessments, therapy planning, and execution.
  • Managing ventilators, performing weaning, airway management, and interpreting waveforms.
  • Administering medications, performing invasive and non-invasive procedures, and supporting diagnostic testing.
  • Providing education to patients, families, and new staff, while fostering a positive team environment.
  • Ensuring safety, documentation accuracy, and compliance with policies and evidence-based practices.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program with science coursework.
  • Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s preferred.
  • 0-2 years of clinical experience, with at least 6 months in critical care.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and databases.
  • Licensed and certified as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, with required BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications, including instructor and provisional statuses where applicable.
