Registered Nurse – First Assist (RNFA)

Role Overview: Performs as a first assistant during surgical procedures in the operating room, collaborating closely with surgeons and the perioperative team to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides intraoperative patient care as a first assistant, conducting pre-operative assessments and analyzing data to determine nursing diagnoses.
  • Supports surgical team efficiency by considering safety, effectiveness, and cost factors in care planning and delivery.
  • Monitors patient responses, administers medications per standards, and manages individualized perioperative care plans.
  • Participates in professional development, incorporates research into practice, and advocates for patient safety.
  • Engages in ethical decision-making, patient and family education, and provides leadership within the professional setting.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • RN license with a nursing diploma or associate’s degree; 2-5 years of experience preferred.
  • Must possess CNOR certification; bachelor’s degree in nursing and Certified First Assistant credentials are preferred.
  • Strong collaboration, critical thinking, and ethical practice skills required.

Additional Details: This PRN role involves 8-hour days, primarily from 7AM to 3:30PM, with a 45-minute call time. The position operates within a full-service hospital equipped with dedicated operating rooms and a call coverage team. The role emphasizes professional growth, commitment to quality care, and adherence to standards.
