The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Poison Control Call Center manages and triages poison exposure cases by assessing severity, identifying toxic substances, and calculating ingested amounts to determine appropriate treatment options.
Provides treatment recommendations for at-home or emergency care while maintaining a courteous, professional, customer-focused approach.
Directs customers to supervisors or specialists as needed and supplies poison and drug information to healthcare professionals and the public.
Completes documentation and follow-up for each case, serving as a preceptor for students and residents.
Requires a high school diploma, associate degree in nursing, and previous critical care experience, with preferred experience in emergency room care, TESS, and poison center work.
Must hold a valid RN license, BLS certification, and obtain Certified Specialist in Poison Information credential after hire.
Requires excellent communication, computer skills, and knowledge of Windows and Word processing.
